saturday market

You might know that I don't usually post on Saturdays when I'm at home because I stay at my Grandma's house. My sister and brothers and I have done it since forever. Although now my sister is usually out drinking Strongbow...!

Here are a few thing I thrifted today. The American term sounds cool rather than 'picked up in a charity shop', it's better with a verb! I got some Clark's t-bar heels with remind me a bit of something Liebemarlene might sell. The patent toe is a bit long but they're super comfy and fit like a dream so I might just keep them. I found a hilariously fake Vivienne Westwood bag. I got it because Oxfam do returns but eBay will take down your account for even saying something is counterfeit so I'll take it back.

These cute shorts are originally from Zara but are a little big so I'll have to take them in. Last night I made the worst attempt at a romper...ever! The shorts went ok but attaching the top part proved too crazy and it was super wonky and then there was the problem of actually getting it on, eek!

I found a high waisted bright purple skirt but it doesn't fit too well so I may have to sell it. I got a scarf because I liked the pink and grape in it and some Judy Blume books because I love her!

Speaking of books, I used to read all the time in the summer and got through a few a day so was always hitting up the library. I read from the teen sections because I prefer fiction but hate those cheap books aimed at women where they are a journalist and have a one night stand who they fall in love with, etc. Do you have any recommendations? I got these and some others from the library in town and said to the librarian guy, " I'd like to say I'm not reading kids books, but I am!" He didn't have any qualms!

I love those shoes!
I prefer reading teenage books sometimes, chick lit irritates me after a while! I love the Georgia Nicolson series, and of course Gossip Girl!

you may like f. scott fitzgerald?...what else...the outsiders is one of my recent favourite reads, written by s.e. hinton when she was only seventeen...have you read the virgin suicides? i fell in love with the book but since reading it i hate the movie, shame! i find getting a book of short stories, especially by lots of different authors is a good start to get back into reading. i'm really impatient and a book has to grab me in the first few pages if i'm to finish it, but a short story is a doddle and you get to try out a variety of authors, styles, genres and that. speaking of which, 'birthday stories' is a great collection.

love the shoes, it's hard to go wrong with t-bars!

Not really teenagery books but maybe you'll like these authors too. Maeve Binchy is so good..her stories bring in so many charachters. Wish I hadn't read them all so I could go back and start again. Especially Light a Penny Candle and Circle of Friends. Also, another author I can't get enough off is Sarah Waters. She's addictive. That junk book is really good..I remember getting it out of the library years ago.
One very good book I read recently is A million little pieces..kinda dark in bits..its about a guy recovering from drug and alcohol addiction but its really good. I need someone to recommend things to me now!

I remember reading Judy Blume. It was so scandalous 30 years ago.

Hey, i just came across your blog and have read all of the past posts, i really like it :) I especially love the header! I love the shoes btw in this post, very cute! I'm from the UK too.
check out my blog tell me what you think.
Bye
xx

you should read 'i capture the castle' by dodie smith. it's perfect for teenage girls and is a really easy read which sucks you into the world of a seventeen year old in the 1930s stuck in a crunmbling castle with her mad family, and it is also incredibly well written and a real classic. there was a film made of it recently, starring romola garai. one of my favourite books - i've read it time and time again, and this is coming from someone now studying english and cambridge uni!

The shoes are adorable! Just the sort of thing i'm looking for :) Don't you just love Blubber? Book of my childhood!
xx

I love teenage fiction! I get through it a lot faster than I do books for adults. I always wonder what the people at the library think when I put a few teenage novels on the lending desk with my blue adult card on top!

I recommend Sarra Manning ("Let's Get Lost" is the best, and her "Fashionistas" series the fluffiest but there's a lot of fashion references to enjoy), Kate Cann, and Sarah Dessen. I haven't read all of their books, but enough to say they're good!

Judy Blume is my fave. Love that you got them with their original covers too...

Love the Clarks!

/DCB.

Is there are specific content you are looking for? I keep a record of all the books I read, if you have any thing specific I'm sure I could steer you in the right direction.

You might like this book called Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. It's quite teeny but really good and very interesting. They're making a movie of it too, coming out in October (note: Read book first!!)

i love teenage books too!
i've just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini- the best book i've read in a LONG time. it's set in Afghanistan and is from the perspective of two women. if you don't like sad stories, don't go for it, though.
Also, I love Murakami. Try the Windup Bird Chronicle, or Kafka on the Shore...they're bizzare, but i love them...

Those T-straps are super adorable!

great buys!
i love those t-straps.

Hah, I went thrifting Saturday too!
I like the scarf you found, and anything with links and chains (S&M anyone?!?!)
I recommend reading The Saturday Wife by Naomi Raegan by the way!

The shoes are really great!
I prefer teenage books too. Grown up book are way to grown-ish for me.

(You posted this twice?)

Love the shoes. I believe there a certain age you hit when you are old enough to read fairy tales again. I no longer have qualms reading children's books, many of them are classic.

'The Kite Runner' is Khaled Hosseini's first novel and I thought is was amayzing (although sometimes was hard to read because I couldn't stop crying in parts) and I would recommend it to everyone. I really want to read his other novel (as someone else recommended). The last book I read was 'Breakfast of Champions (or Goodbye Blue Monday'by Kurt Vonnegut. I read through it super fast and loved the satirical commentary on American life/culture. I love DH Lawrence and Jane Austen, 'Maus' and 'Persepolis' are 2 of the greatest graphic novels in my opinion. There are so many good books out there! I'm a World Literature and Culture Studies Student so I have a lot of interest in novels and stories of all kinds from all over the globe! There is one that I really liked as a kid but I can't remember the title and author BUT I do remember there was a group of kids in a tree on the cover LOL!

those red check shorts are more than amazing@@@@@

Hey again, I think I am pretty much the same as you when it comes to clubs. Two of my best friends love subculture but I am much more of a Snobs/Panic/Resurrection kind of girl. Snobs gets sooo hot doesn't it? I love it too...even though the vodka is famously terrible and there is no way I can wear nice shoes there, they just get wrecked!

Haha, that's funny, who takes their birth certificate? Apparently Panic is back at the sanctuary which is great. It was horrible at the q club, I just hate that building it's like off a horror set or something, too many corridors. Yes yes, If I ever see you I will definitely say hi! We'll do that awkward..."hi I know you via the internet" melarky...

i really like the scarf you bought! the colours rock.
i'm no good at thrifting so i get jealous of those who find great stuff all the time ;-)

i really love to read childrens books rather than teen books. have you read "a series of unfortunate events" by lemony snicket? so good!

If you want something easy to read, try Peter Robinson orSue Grafton. I don't know if her books are available in the UK, but definitely check out Kerry Greenwood, especially the Phryne Fisher series. They're set in 1920s Melbourne (Australia) and the descriptions of the clothes alone are worth it!
