Can we talk about spring yet? Maybe I can't when I live here:
SnowGate/The Big Freeze has got nothing on this. Trudging to the bus stop is like an Indiana Jones movie, where suddenly you'll be knee deep in snow. In England it seems to snow a little and the country goes into panic, and then it's a war zone of ice, slush and sleet. But here it's just SNOW. A LOT of snow. I haven't even made a snowman, what am I playing at?!
But the fashion weeks are nearly upon us, which means you have to be thinking ahead to your Spring wardrobes. Maybe I should be investing in snow boots rather than bikinis but hey, buy early and get more wear out of the new season stuff I say! So I'm doing a few posts on the things I would ideally be buying right now, if I wasn't trying to saw a leeetle bit of money for maybe some travels to visit other Erasmus friends. These trips might happen to be during fashion week too, how handy! Well not actually booked yet, but they're in the works. I find it really hard to plan ahead and set aside days and days. Who knows if there will be the party of the century or the event of a lifetime on those very days?
I've got posts planned on what I've picked from the runways, from tumblrs and from a few other random places, but here's my cheapie online picks, WWW style, that you can buy with magical pieces of plastic. I hear banks are quite stingy with their student overdrafts right now, they were much more generous in my day. Natwest practically threw a credit card at me, it's only me being obedient by using it muhaha.
These are the things that I could totally buy now with my memorized debit card digits, but must resist! So clockwise from the top we have those fabulous American Apparel opaque two colour pantyhose (urgh that word is cringey!) tights, which I might get. I can see how you'd recoil but I have an infinite amout of little, tight black dresses, so imagine the red and periwinkle with some hiiiigh heels, just the dress, and some amazing lashes? You can go a bit weird if you sex it up so maybe with the Style Stalker dress I have that has the slits in the side? I actually thought they were pink and purple, what do they look like in real life? The black and white would be great for daytime too, as my lessons in Swedish style means this spring will feature a lotta leg. I'm thinking bare legs are coming back too, with some amazing heels and lots of jewellery.
I very nearly got these HK headphones that I saw first on Milk, then on Niotillfem, then remembered I don't have an ipod or infact any music player. I usually listen to the radio on my phone if I need music, but I don't want to download illegally so how can my clothes funds go on music when it's all free on youtube! Also I couldn't decide on the black, white and pink or bright pink.
I've got a few American Apparel things on here because their stuff fits me so well! Even you can see the models on their site are hippy and arsey but not so busty! Every Arcadia shop, aka Topshop, Miss Selfridge, isn't my shape though so it's not all fun! Do you find the same, some shops fit but some don't? H&M Divided things have really small waists which is great, and I go to Mango for good fitting jeans! The Interlock cut-out back mini dress looks like a good buy but does the hole in the back show your bra? Ah I could tell you a funny story about one of those low back extenders that I forgot I was wearing and this guy that was like wtfffffff?!
The first set of Alice in Wonderland inspired makeup come in these pretty lipsticks from Paul and Joe. I'm going to try and hit Gothenburg on Friday and go to the makeup concessions in NK to find a clashy, clashy lipstick that somehow suits? I think the light coral would look great on dirty blondes.
Ahhh I really want to snap this New Look heart mesh dress up!! What do you think about Little J modelling? I wish she'd looked a little bit different to what she parades round in every day, Olsen style. Like the hair and the eyes are nothing new, so she doesn't add to the clothes so much. And it's a bit strange to buy clothes modelled by a girl so young. And I must say if you buy anything online look for a voucher code first!! I just saved 20% at ASOS from one google search and American Apparel ALWAYS have codes out there. A good site is VoucherCodes.co.uk which has a £10 off New Look orders right now even. SO temptinggg. I saw so many great things at the Paris press day that I'm stalking the website with that deal ready! They have the dress with the cut-out heart at the back too, which would round my order up nicely to save the £10! Don't forget your codes!
These Office velvet platforms have very nearly sold out in their usual insane sale but I got a pair in my size! Sadly when they were down to £30 instead of the £10 that they are now, but maybe I wouldn't have got a size if I hadn't seen them on the marvy blog Thrills and Frills so early. The thing is, they're in bloody England!!! Ah no good! So I'll have to wait about a month to get to them. I'm thinking they're kind of Prada clogs vs Miu Miu platforms. The Miu Miu SS10 shoes are the most incredible things ever, I would REALLY love a pair for my 21st...!!!
Some books? Jah! First I'm thinking of ordering If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone. If you don't watch The Hills (which you should), Kelly Cutrone owns a fashion PR firm that all the Hills girls try a stint at (some failing more than others, haha gotta love Stephanie!!) and she is amazing. Like super cut-throat and dry yet she obviously knows her stuff and built her company so successfully. I also think The Teen Vogue Handbook would be a great resource for anyone studying or aspiring to work in fashion, and I kind of want to read Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour by Rachel Zoe. I'm always interested in women who've built their own brands, and it's valuable to know how they got to their positions today.
I looove the idea of a perfume ring! The Marc Jacobs Lola ring (there's also one for Daisy) would not only look fabulous, but also mean you could constantly top up your scent with the solid perfume block hidden inside! Might not be so practical but it's so nice when someone walks past you smelling sweet and you think wow, why don't I wear perfume every day?!
The ASOS Sweat Jersey Maxi Skirt could be the perfect maxi, plus it's on sale! Although I don't know why sweat has to be in the name? Is it for exercise?? I love my other ASOS maxi dress but this seems much more practical!
The Alice in Wonderland Urban Decay Book of Shadows is apparently sold out out but I think they'll re-release it before the movie at least. Their Pocket Rocket lip glosses are amazing too, and they have a hologram of a guy on where from one angle he is only in his boxers, woo! Their eye shadow primer potion is the stuff of legends too. It's so great to look in the mirror on a night out and thing OK my makeup is in place rather than 'aaargh what's happened, must apply a truck load more and make it extra wonky too!'
I had another class today for a new subject which was fine. I met some new Textiles girls too and I love it when you pluck up the courage to talk to someone and later think 'yay, I made a friend!'. Although I was so distracted that I bought some amazing nails and then walked out the shop without them?! I didn't take the receipt either so I'm not sure they'll believe me when I go back!
