Cast your mind back, way back, to fall 2008, when Siri, Kinga and Irina walked the runway. Do you remember the Sonia Rykiel crowns? I think they were made of pearls or beads. This crowns were awesome, any excuse for a hair accessory! Well I happened to go into Glitter, a slightly more bling-y Claire's Accessories, in Copenhagen central station a few months ago and spotted some crowns made of pearls. I got one to put with my sister's birthday present maybe to wear to her party and one for myself just because they were cool! They have a heart shaped gem on the centre point but I might snap that off.

There aren't so many places you can wear crowns that can transfer to day wear and not seem like costume or hen night attire, but I had to photograph my Sonia Rykiel x H&M stuff with the crown! I also waited so long because these Office velvet platforms are just like the ones in the collection, but probably ten times harder to walk in, and I'd left them in England. I don't know what to do with them! They're just impossible to take one step in, even on carpet. The platform is insane and thins at the sole so you are balancing on a very small area, and the straps have no support. Useless! I love them though so what can you do!

Today I went shopping with Winnie from Diamond Canopy (more on that later!) and we spotted a few items still left in store from the Sonia Rykiel collection, which was released over London Fashion Week. I would have got the over-sized stripy dress but that was sold out by the second day, when I got to the Birmingham store. I did however pick up the jumper and some socks in the best stripes ever. There is nothing more fun than a stripy jumper.
I love Vlada Roslyakova! About four years ago I added Lily Cole on myspace and she said I looked like her, how random! But regardless she is one of my favourite models and looked great in this campaign. I did wonder today though how datable designer collaborations are. Not as in you can take your item out for dinner, but as in they don't look so fresh for very long. Personally I love this jumper and do actually wear it like this with the matching socks! In fact I wore this whole outfit for a major final presentation in Sweden, minus the shoes. Here's the proof!

I love wearing this jumper, especially with the socks, but I get the feeling that other people would look at it and think 'that's old.' Like say if I saw a Christopher Kane tshirt on someone I'd automatically think, 'Ah they must have bought that last year and are still wearing it.' I even own one of those tshirts, so it's more a case of wondering if people would think you were a bit erm, trampy? I'm trying to be as sustainable as I can recently and have no qualms in wearing things that are years and years old, but wearing clothes that are so publicised means everyone knows just where and when you got it. The majority of people won't care or would forget about the collection, but say when I intern at a cool fashion company, will it just seem a bit behind the times? A bit old and used? A bit last season? I don't know if this even matters but wearing pink and yellow stripes truly makes you cheerful, I can vouch for that!

Can you pleeeease make your hair big and poofy like Vlada's?? That would be amazing! Hahah, so cute :)
I'm actually glad to hear that THOSE office platforms are hard to walk in because ever since I first saw them I've been lusting after them HARD. Knowing that they're so uncomfortable actually comforts me, haha. I found some amazing velvet platforms at a thrift store and they were 5 dollars! Of course they were about 3 sizes too small, alas! I convinced my friend to buy them to sell online, so at least someone will be able to appreciate them!
Hope your enjoying your summer, I'm done exams tomorow. eek!

You are so cute! I'm with you on the Sonia crowns as well. I really, really wish crowns would get mainstream so I would feel less like freak for wearing them...and I'm not even talking the bling ones. Flower crowns for example, very modern hippy/cool...

You're so lucky that you snagged some pieces from the Rykiel collection! I went the day after it was released in London and most everything had sold out. Everything that remained was in HUGE sizes! Also I love the way it looks with the crown, so cute :)
But I have to say I don't agree about the outdated thing. Fashion isn't supposed to be "fast" - even designer pieces are supposed to be an investment. If I see a gold Louis Vuitton miroir handbag, I don't think "omg that's from 3 years ago," I think "Wow, they managed to snag one of those gorgeous limited edition bags!" Also for things that are limited edition, I think you really can wear them for ages. Of course certain things can make you seem dated, say if they are around 5-10 years old... or if you wear bellbottoms or something. But if it's just something from last season or 1-2 years ago, I think it's absolutely fine to wear and I highly doubt someone at a fashion magazine would think you were behind on the times! Besides, you could always bring it up to date with the right accessories and shoes, I think.

That is a lovely jumper, the colours look great on you. Perservere with the shoes, I'm sure they're worth it!

I believe in utilizing clothes you love, and if they work in an outfit then who cares if they're "outdated"? I bought a dress from the first Christopher Kane & Topshop collab on ebay recently. Most people had forgotten about it and I never saw anyone else wearing it, but the colours fit perfectly into this spring and I just love it to death!
Phew! I'm almost finished...
It's a shame the shoes are uncomfortable when they're so cute, they'd sold out in my size in the sale so I got the "beauty and the beast" shoes from Office which are v similar minus the bow and they're really comfy! The sole between the platform and heel is so thick though, it makes it feel like I'm rocking on wedges.

Oh yes, you do look like Lily Cole.
Adore these multi coloured stripes, perhaps you could DIY a record single hat or headband too?

i think it can be a sign of good quality clothes that you can wear them year after year, but i the bigger issue is the insane consumerist attitude that most people have- throwing their clothes away at the end of the season, because they no longer value them. if you like them when you buy them, there should be no reason why a year later you won't. There's too much emphasis on trend and not enough on timeless, quality clothing- although I think that might be changing gradually due to the economy. I think this jumper is great, and that it's Sonia Rykiel is a plus; if anyone looks down on you for wearing it next year or the year after, that's more of a reflection on them, not you!
By the way I love your blog!

I like the collection, too, but I had the same thought and in the end I didn't buy anything!

I don't know, I think with items like this that they don't go out of style. Sure plenty of people will stop wearing them after a few months but you got to respect those people who can keep the look still fashionable and relevant even three years on. You look great! I got the patent platform wedges on a whim. All the jumpers were left in tiny sizes :(
PS. Made my blog! http://vagabondlanguage.blogspot.com

Oh Selina, you look so cute in the crown, stripes and the pink walls of your room. Kinda know what you mean about the stripes in relation to the CK for Topshop stuff. I wear my dress occassionaly but it's so obvious where/when it was from. I love it though and they are all definitely keepers! I never bought any Sonia Rykiel but the jumper is so fun teamed with the stripey socks!

Love the cute outfit. PS what size did you get the jumper in? I wanted to get one off ebay and they seem to all be mediums... not sure if it would fit me.

I constantly feel that way! Like I put a photo of myself in my christopher kane for topshop dress as my profile picture on facebook (the only time i have ever worn it!) and now I feel like I cannot wear it out again!! :-( Lol.

ahh im so glad your having the same problem with the shoes (not in that way of course!) i cannot walk in mine :( i fell like a million times when i wore them out, its sooo annoying!my foot just seems to slip in them randomly, even when i added gel insoles for extra grip. its sooo sad, glad we only paid a tenner for them though!
